Starting October 31 through November 9, the wholesale club is offering members a free fresh or frozen Butterball turkey. The catch? It’s reserved for members who spend $150 or more in a single transaction in-club or online at BJs.com in that time frame.
Once you stock up on your holiday needs next week, your turkey coupon will become available on your BJ’s app or online account the following week. You can redeem your free whole turkey from November 14 through November 25, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
So which should you choose: a fresh or frozen turkey? The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recommends buying frozen unless you’re cooking it up in one to two days. So if you’re redeeming your coupon anytime before November 23, it may be better to claim an already-frozen bird. But feel free to grab a fresh turkey if you’re a last-minute shopper—or you can freeze it yourself!
