A very insensitive and shocking case has come to light from Karnataka's Silicon Valley i.e. Bengaluru. A serious issue of generating bills by making fun of the physical appearance and attire of the customer in a popular cafe of the city has come to the fore. Bengaluru's iconic 'Subko' cafe called a customer 'little fat black shirt' instead of mentioning his name or table number on his bill, sparking a barrage of reactions on social media. After the controversy escalated, the cafe management has now publicly apologized and strongly condemned this objectionable act. The receipt went viral on social media, users expressed displeasure over the attitude of the cafe. This whole controversy started when the victim customer shared the picture of the bill given by the cafe on social media. Derogatory comments were recorded on the bill based on the customer's body weight and clothing color rather than using traditional methods of identification such as name, table number or order ID. As soon as the picture surfaced, users on the internet expressed their displeasure over the cafe's employees and the work culture there. People said that this kind of insult to customers in corporate and food outlets comes under the category of mental harassment and body-shaming, which cannot be accepted at any cost. Cafe management issued an apology, internal committee is investigating. After the matter heated up and the demand for boycott was raised, the cafe management immediately came into action and issued an official statement. The cafe said that some mistakes are corrected silently, but some need to be acknowledged publicly, because remaining silent promotes the culture that gave birth to it. The café clearly acknowledges that this action by one of their employees was completely unacceptable and they extend a heartfelt apology to the guest to whom this incident occurred. The management also assured that their Internal Complaints Committee is reviewing the entire matter in depth and accountability will be fixed against the guilty employee. Along with this, the cafe has appealed to the customers to contact them through their official form for any inconvenience or complaint so that appropriate corrective steps can be taken.
