Patna. Candidates took out a protest march in Patna on Tuesday demanding the cancellation of the 70th examination of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) and the recruitment examination for 1,799 posts of Sub Inspector of Bihar Police Sub Inspector (BPSSC). The candidates alleged that there were irregularities in both the examinations. The protesters were marching from Gandhi Maidan towards the Chief Minister's residence but the police stopped them at JP Golambar.
Fierce demonstration by students amid police siege
Amidst the rain, some protesters holding the tricolor broke the barricades put up at JP Golambar and tried to proceed through other routes, bypassing the police security arrangements. Some protesters attempted to block the railway track while other protesters moved towards the Assembly and the Chief Minister's residence.
The protesters say that our demand is that the 70th BPSC and BPSSC Inspector recruitment exams should be canceled because these exams were affected by irregularities. We also want that the contract system in BPSC examinations, especially the rule of 25 percent weightage, should be abolished and the examinations should be conducted regularly.
Protestors did not agree even on SSP's appeal
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Karthikeya K. “Many protesters who entered the prohibited areas were detained from different places. They should protest peacefully only at designated sites and put forth their demands in an orderly manner,” Sharma told reporters. He said law and order was affected due to entry into the prohibited areas, operation of essential services like ambulances was hampered and school children also got stranded for some time.
