BRICS Summit 2026: BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting in Delhi today, expected to discuss Middle East crisis

New Delhi, 14 May. The meeting of foreign ministers of ‘BRICS’ countries under the chairmanship of India is going to start in New Delhi from Thursday. This meeting is taking place at a time when geopolitical tensions are continuously increasing in West Asia. This high level meeting was chaired by Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will do. Foreign ministers and senior representatives of BRICS member countries are expected to participate in it. Leaders and delegations from various countries have started reaching New Delhi to attend the meeting. This will be the first major ministerial meeting under India’s BRICS chairmanship.

It is believed that it will play an important role in deciding the agenda of the BRICS leaders’ summit to be held later this year. During the weekly media briefing held in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that senior diplomats from the participating countries will attend the meeting. The ministry also gave the broad outline of the discussions to be held during the two-day meeting. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the meeting of foreign ministers of ‘BRICS’ countries is scheduled on 14 and 15 May and it is being chaired by India.

According to the MEA, the main focus of the discussions will be on major regional and global developments, strengthening multilateral cooperation among member states, and pursuing reforms in international governance structures in view of changing geopolitical realities. The ministry said that the participating countries will decide their own level of representation. More details about the delegations will be shared when the delegates reach New Delhi. The delegates participating in the summit will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the national capital.

Officials said that this time the theme of the ‘BRICS’ summit reflects India’s “humanity first” and people-centric approach, on which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given special emphasis during the BRICS summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 2025. This will be the fourth time that India will host a BRICS summit level event, reflecting New Delhi’s growing role within the grouping and among countries in the global South.
