New Delhi: India is presiding over BRICS this year and under this, the 18th BRICS summit is going to be organized in the capital Delhi. This important meeting will be held on 12th and 13th September at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The conference is expected to be attended by top leaders of member countries along with representatives of partner countries and other invited countries.
The eyes of many big leaders including Putin, Xi Jinping
Many prominent world leaders are likely to reach Delhi for the BRICS summit. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to attend the conference. Iranian President Masood Pejeshkian may also come to India
Apart from this, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres is also likely to participate in the conference. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, apart from the heads of state of the member countries, leaders of partner countries and representatives of other countries have also been invited under the outreach programme.
BRICS summit is special on completion of 20 years
This conference to be held in Delhi is also important for BRICS because the organization is completing almost two decades of its formation. In 2006, Brazil, Russia, India and China launched the BRIC group during the United Nations General Assembly meeting. Later in 2009, its first formal summit was held in Yekaterinburg, Russia. After the joining of South Africa in the year 2010, the name of BRIC became BRICS.
Now a group of 11 member countries
BRICS has expanded rapidly in the last few years. Apart from India, Russia, China, Brazil and South Africa, the group includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. Along with this, a separate category of partner countries has also been created in BRICS.
The summit to be held in Delhi is considered important in terms of discussion among the member countries on global economy, cooperation and international issues. The eyes of the world will be on this meeting to be chaired by India.
