BRICS Summit: PM Modi expressed concern over weaponization of critical minerals and technology

Tezzbuzz Desk- Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the use of technology and critical minerals as weapons on the last day of the BRICS Summit. In the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping, PM Modi said that the increasing geopolitical tension in the world is having a direct impact on the lives of common people. In such a situation, BRICS countries will have to face global challenges together and strengthen the development journey of the Global South.

Pandemics, climate disasters and supply chain disruptions have proven that problems in one country can affect others as well. Therefore, advance preparation and timely action is necessary to deal with future crises.

Early warning system to deal with the epidemic

PM Modi said that there has been an agreement among BRICS countries to create BRICS Integrated Early Warning System for identification and prevention of infectious diseases. Along with this, guidelines for early warning data integration mechanism have also been prepared. This will help in detecting the danger of epidemic or any infectious disease in future and taking timely action.

He also described the BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation Framework as important. According to PM Modi, this will make the supply chain between countries more reliable and stronger. If there is a crisis in one area, it will also help in preventing its impact from spreading to other countries.

Emphasis on startup and innovation

Referring to the BRICS Incubator Network, the Prime Minister said that it will work to connect startups and incubators from different countries. This will increase opportunities to jointly work on new technology, innovation and business ideas.

He said that during India's BRICS chairmanship, Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability i.e. strength, innovation, cooperation and sustainable development were taken forward as four major pillars. PM Modi said that the Global South's trust in BRICS has increased. Now the organization will have to work together to address the challenges of developing countries and accelerate inclusive development.
