Brijbhushan Sharan Singh acquitted in the case of sexual exploitation of women wrestlers

A Delhi court has acquitted Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, former president of the Wrestling Federation of India, in cases related to the sexual harassment of female wrestlers. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwini Panwar of the Rouse Avenue Court delivered the verdict. The entire case was heard in a closed room, in camera. The court had previously reserved its verdict. Female wrestlers protested against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh at Jantar Mantar in January 2023, and several athletes returned their medals.

Brijbhushan Sharan Singh was widely criticized for this sexual harassment case. He was a Member of Parliament from the Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat. The BJP denied him a ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections due to the controversy. His son, Karan Bhushan Singh, was fielded in his place. He, like his father, won the seat.
