BSNL’s big bet: Country’s cheapest postpaid plan is available for just Rs 199, huge money will be saved every month.

BSNL 199 Postpaid Plan— Government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced the country’s cheapest postpaid mobile plan, giving tough competition to private telecom companies. While postpaid plans from private companies like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea usually start at around Rs 400, BSNL is offering postpaid service for only Rs 199 per month. This plan is available directly at half the price, which has become a direct means of reducing monthly mobile expenses by half.

25GB data and 75GB rollover facility

This Rs 199 plan from BSNL is designed for users who want a fixed monthly cost and the reliability of postpaid at a low price. Subscribers get a total of 25GB data in this plan. Along with this, the biggest feature of this plan is its 75GB data rollover facility. This means that if your data is saved in any month, it will be added to the next month’s quota. However, after the free data limit is exhausted, internet usage will be charged at the rate of 1 paise per MB.

Unlimited voice calling and daily SMS benefits

Apart from data, this cheap postpaid plan gives users 24 x 7 unlimited voice calling at no extra charges. Both local and STD calls are completely free. Along with this, a daily allowance of 100 SMS for daily needs has also been included in this plan. One thing to note is that there is no add-on family connection bundled with this budget plan, meaning it will only work for a single user.

Direct impact on users’ pockets and the way forward

Postpaid mobile subscribers are generally reluctant to change their SIMs and play a vital role in generating high average revenue per user (ARPU) for companies. Amidst the increasingly expensive tariffs of private companies, this step of BSNL is a deliberate strategy to attract middle class and budget conscious users. Even though the initial data allowance is a bit low, considering the fixed monthly cost of Rs 199, it is proving to be a value-for-money deal for common customers.
