A new political movement is visible in the Dalit politics of Uttar Pradesh. National President of Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) Chandrashekhar Azad is continuously increasing his activism from streets to Parliament. Through participation in the movements at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, demonstrations in support of the opposition outside the Parliament and frequent visits to the districts of Uttar Pradesh, he is trying to establish himself as a strong voice of the Dalits, backward classes and youth.
On the other hand, Bahujan Samaj Party is also preparing to fill new energy in the organization in view of this changing political environment. There is discussion in political circles that Mayawati has decided to activate Akash Anand again in the politics of Uttar Pradesh under this strategy.
Organizations expanding from Western UP to Bundelkhand
Chandrashekhar Azad’s strongest political base is considered to be western Uttar Pradesh. His organizational hold has continuously strengthened in districts like Saharanpur, Deoband, Nakur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bijnor and Hapur. Apart from this, efforts are also being made to expand the party organization in Agra, Aligarh, Hathras and Bulandshahr. In the last few months, he has also visited Prayagraj, Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya and many districts of Bundelkhand and held meetings with the workers.
Political experts believe that after setting up the organization in Western Uttar Pradesh, Chandrashekhar Azad’s focus is now towards Awadh and Purvanchal. For this, meetings, membership campaigns and programs to connect youth are being run continuously at the district level. The party is trying to prepare an organization up to the booth level in the entire state before the 2027 assembly elections.

BSP’s eye on increasing activism among youth
The BSP leadership also believes that new political choices are emerging among the Dalit youth. For this reason, the party is constantly busy activating the organization by appointing in-charges in the districts. It is believed that Mayawati has made a strategy to strengthen the party’s hold among the youth and new voters by reactivating Akash Anand in Uttar Pradesh.
According to political discussions, Akash Anand has been recalled from the responsibilities of Rajasthan and has been activated in Uttar Pradesh. It is expected that he will hold organizational meetings across the state, increase communication with the youth and also give impetus to the grassroots campaign along with social media. It is also discussed that he may be seen in the ongoing movements or opposition programs at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, although there has been no official confirmation from the BSP on this.
BSP’s vote percentage continuously decreased
The electoral performance of BSP, which was once in power in Uttar Pradesh with an absolute majority, has weakened in the last few years. After 2012, the party was out of power and its support base reduced significantly in the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections. Even in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the party could not win any seat. Political analysts believe that a part of Dalit votes is divided among different parties and that is why BSP is now trying to strengthen the organization afresh.

Dalit politics contest will be interesting in 2027
There are indications that the competition for Dalit vote bank will intensify before the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. On one hand, Chandrashekhar Azad is continuously trying to increase his political ground through agitation, public relations and organization expansion, while on the other hand, BSP is seen working on a new strategy under the leadership of Akash Anand to keep its traditional support base strong. This political contest is being considered one of the most important battles of Uttar Pradesh politics in the coming months.
