Bulldozer Action On Delhi Race Club Land: Bulldozer has roared on the land of historical Delhi Race Club. The Central Government has taken possession of 84 acres of land of Delhi Race Club. The old and dilapidated structures built on the land were demolished in the presence of police forces and administrative officials. After this, the very valuable land of Lutyens' Delhi was now taken over by the Central Government.
Let us tell you that the Patiala House Court of Delhi had refused to give immediate relief to Delhi Race Club Limited. The club had sought an interim stay on the eviction order of the estate officer but the court rejected the petition. The court said that the club was given adequate opportunity to present its side but it failed in doing so.
After not getting interim relief from Patiala House Court, officials of Land and Development Office and Central Public Works Department reached the spot and got the formal transfer of the land done. This transfer was done on as is where is basis. As soon as the paperwork was completed, the premises were demolished. Many old structures were removed with bulldozers. After taking possession of the land, the responsibility of its maintenance and further development has been given to the Central Public Works Department. This means that now the old control of the club on the land of this prime location has ended and it has come under the direct control of the central government.
The lease had expired for more than 30 years.
According to the government, the lease of this land of the Race Club had ended in December 1994 itself. After this the lease was not renewed through any new document. The Central Government had argued in the court that after the lease ended, the club was in unauthorized occupation of the government land. This became the biggest basis for the government's action.
The main petition of the club is still pending in the court.
However, the legal battle in the case is not completely over. The main challenge of the club is currently pending in the court and the next hearing is to be held on September 26, but due to lack of interim protection from the court, the government has taken possession of the land instead of waiting.
