Bulldozer ran on Abhishek Banerjee’s office in Bengal
A new controversy has started in the politics of West Bengal after the action taken by the administration at the office of Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state general secretary Locket Chatterjee has supported this action. He said that the government’s action against corruption and illegal construction will continue.
While talking to the media on Saturday (July 19, 2026), Locket Chatterjee said that during the last 15 years, many irregularities took place during the rule of the Trinamool Congress government, but now such things will not be tolerated. He said that wherever corruption or illegal construction is found, the administration will take action as per the rules and illegal structures will be removed.
According to officials, an anti-encroachment campaign was conducted amid tight security arrangements at Abhishek Banerjee’s office located in Amtala. A large number of police personnel from the Diamond Harbor police district were deployed during the operation. The entire area was kept under security cover so that no untoward incident happens.
Administrative sources say that this office was closed after the election results were declared. According to officials, the South 24 Parganas district administration had issued a notice regarding the alleged illegal construction. However, no representative from the office appeared before the District Council within the stipulated time.
After this, the administration started further action as per government rules and adopted the process of vacating the premises. During the action, a large number of local people also reached the spot and a crowd gathered to watch the entire incident. Police continued to maintain law and order and tight security was maintained in the entire area.
Earlier on July 3, Abhishek Banerjee had made serious allegations against the Special Task Force (STF) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal Police. He had claimed that his office and people associated with him were being harassed for political reasons.
In a post on social media platform He had said that these people are being pressurized to give false statements against him. He also made allegations like phone tapping, harassing family members and even threatening women.
Abhishek Banerjee had termed this entire action as political harassment. At the same time, the administration and BJP say that the action is being taken completely as per the rules and its aim is only to stop illegal construction and irregularities. At present, political rhetoric regarding this matter has intensified and this controversy is likely to increase further in the coming days.
