Bulldozers will run on India-Pakistan border, strict instructions from Home Ministry, illegal constructions should be demolished within 0-15 km of the borders.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed officials to strictly implement ‘zero tolerance policy’ against illegal constructions within 15 km of the country’s borders and demolish all such structures built in the last few years. The Home Ministry has entrusted district magistrates with enhanced responsibilities to ensure legal and financial compliance of banking transactions by all banks in the border areas, verify large business establishments, investigate their funding sources, detect fake accounts and shell companies, identify fake Aadhaar cards and control cross-border smuggling, officials said.

Chairing a security review meeting in Bikaner on Tuesday, Shah assessed the security issues in the border districts of Rajasthan along the India-Pakistan border. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, senior officials of the state and District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police of five border districts – Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sri Ganganagar and Phalodi were present in the meeting.

The Home Ministry said in a statement that the border districts have been directed to thoroughly study the sources, patterns and networks of crimes and drug problems and develop sustainable solutions so that these problems do not re-emerge. Shah stressed on creating a 360-degree security cover for each border district involving citizens, government machinery and security agencies.

Constructions will be destroyed within 0 to 15 kilometers of internal borders

Officials said the Home Minister has called for strict enforcement of zero tolerance policy against illegal constructions, especially within 0 to 15 kilometers of the internal borders, and demolition of all such structures. He stressed the importance of a coordinated approach to border management involving BSF, CBDT, NCB and state machinery to deal with infiltration, drug smuggling, encroachment, terrorism financing and other cross-border crimes.

“Emphasis was laid on the successful implementation of ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ (VVP)-II to strengthen last mile governance, curb economic crimes, bridge infrastructure gaps and support border populations,” the ministry statement said. At the meeting, Shah also directed to ensure 100 per cent reach of all government schemes in border villages and called for effective use of ‘1930’ call centers to tackle cyber crimes. “These issues will be reviewed and feedback taken again after two months; therefore, districts will have to ensure result-oriented action,” the statement said.
