From next month, additional charges will be levied on UPI payments above Rs 2000. This charge will have to be paid by the businessmen instead of the customers. Now businessmen are becoming against this. Already many shopkeepers have said not to accept UPI payment. Now trader organizations have planned to hold a massive protest on October 2. Under this, 'NO UPI Day' will be celebrated on 2nd October and no payment will be taken from UPI on that day. Business organizations say that the QR code will be covered with black cloth on that day.
Recently, the Central Government has said that Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) of 0.4 percent will be applicable on payments of more than Rs 2000 through UPI. Under the MDR which is coming into effect from October 15, MDR ranging from Rs 5 to a maximum of Rs 300 will be charged. The government has clarified that this will not apply to transactions done in person. That means, if you send money to someone in your family, you will not have to pay MDR to anyone.

What is the plan of businessmen now?
Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (MACCIA) has called for this protest on October 2. MACCIA President Ravindra Mangave has said that it will be called 'No UPI Day'. He has said, 'We have talked to all the business organizations across the country and all are ready for NO UPI Day. Similar demonstrations will be held not only in Maharashtra but in other states also. According to MACCIA, about 500 organizations will meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in this regard and present their views before him.

If their views are not followed, then on October 2, the UPI scanner, QR box and sound box will be covered with black cloth so that no one can make payment through it. Let us tell you that last week, representatives of petroleum dealers' organizations had met the officials of the Ministry of Petroleum and Gas and demanded that they should be exempted from MDR. Similarly, many other organizations have also expressed their protest and warned that they will not take payment through UPI.
