Mirzapur. Due to the lack of proper drainage system along the National Highway at the Parsia bypass in the Baraundha Chowki area of Lalganj, heavy waterlogging has created a serious crisis for local residents. Following continuous rain, a pond-like situation has developed between the highway and Dhasda Raja Road. Waterlogging and soil erosion have caused widespread waterlogging.
Anand Shankar Mishra’s concrete house collapsed on Thursday evening due to the flood. Fortunately, no one was inside the house at the time of the accident, otherwise a huge loss of life could not have been ruled out. During construction, the contractor failed to ensure proper drainage from Gulabchand Mishra’s house to Shyam Bihari Gupta’s house on the Parsia bypass. As a result, water from several kilometers of highway drains is accumulating at this location. This is causing the foundations of nearby houses to become increasingly damp and leaky. Villagers say that the waterlogging has caused several other problems.
The foundations of the houses are also at risk. Furthermore, the stagnant water is breeding mosquitoes, raising the risk of infectious diseases. Despite this, neither administrative officials nor the implementing agency seem serious about finding a permanent solution to the problem.
The residents of the area have demanded from the district administration to immediately make proper arrangements for drainage of water, provide financial assistance to the affected families and investigate the negligence shown in the construction work and take action against the responsible persons.
