Sanjay Singh, Patna. Buxar police have achieved another major success against the drug trade. Police raided the Naya Bhojpur police station area and arrested five smugglers with 490 grams of brown sugar. The seized brown sugar is estimated to be worth approximately ₹1 crore (approximately $10 million) in the international market. Police also seized a car and five mobile phones from the smugglers.
Dumraon SDPO Polsat Kumar said that the police received intelligence that some people were gathering near Gopal Dera Pokhara to buy and sell brown sugar. Upon receiving the information, a special team was formed under the leadership of the SDPO on the instructions of the Superintendent of Police. Acting swiftly, the team cordoned off the area and raided it, arresting five suspected smugglers. During the search, they recovered 490 grams of brown sugar, a car, and five mobile phones.
The smuggling network stretches from Buxar to Champaran.
According to the police, the arrested accused have been identified as Sonu Kumar, resident of Mungaon in Buxar district, Sameer Sheikh, resident of Nazirganj, Suryakant Pandey, resident of Chilhari, Manjay Kumar Paswan, resident of Phuha in Bhojpur district and Kumar Gaurav, resident of Ramnagar in East Champaran district.
The SDPO stated that preliminary investigations indicate this case is not merely about local drug trafficking, but rather appears to be linked to an organized inter-district drug trafficking ring. The arrested accused include smugglers from East Champaran and Bhojpur, indicating a large drug trafficking network operating from Buxar to Champaran. Police are now working to connect the links within this network based on the accused’s mobile phones, call details, and other clues.
The entire chain will be investigated from source to sale.
The SDPO said that the police are now investigating the entire chain of origin of the brown sugar, from its supply to its sale. The investigation is also looking into where the consignment was brought from and who it was intended to be delivered to.
He clarified that no one involved in this illegal trade will be spared. The entire network will be exposed and all smugglers and their patrons will be arrested. Police have sent the seized mobile phones for forensic examination. The route is also being tracked using the car’s number and GPS. The SDPO said that there are more people involved in this gang and raids are being conducted to arrest them.
The smuggler was caught last month as well
This action by the Naya Bhojpur police station is the second major success against drug trafficking in recent days. Previously, police arrested notorious Assamese drug smuggler Prem Pandit with 480 grams of brown sugar. Following his information, another smuggler was apprehended in Durgapudi, Simri police station area. These ongoing crackdowns have created panic among drug traffickers operating in the district.
The SDPO stated that the special campaign against drug trafficking will continue. He also appealed to the public to immediately inform the police if they receive any information about drug trafficking or purchase. The identity of the informant will be kept confidential. The police claim that this entire syndicate will be dismantled very soon.
