In this sequence, the world’s leading Chinese auto company is preparing to introduce its first plug-in hybrid SUV in India. This SUV with long electric range, petrol backup and premium features can create a new stir in the Indian market. The company is going to introduce its first plug-in hybrid SUV in India on June 9.

It is estimated that this model will target those customers who want the benefits of electric driving, but are still not completely convinced about the long range and charging infrastructure.

This new offering of BYD is being considered a big strategic move of the company. The biggest advantage of plug-in hybrid technology is that everyday short distances can be covered on battery mode, while petrol engine provides support on long distances. This reduces range anxiety significantly.

Market experts believe that in a market like India where the charging network is still developing rapidly, Hybrid Technology can become a better option for many customers.

strong contender
The company has not yet officially revealed the name of the model, but looking at the reports and testing units, BYD Sealion 6 PHEV is considered to be the strongest contender. This SUV has already been shown at the Auto Expo and many private showcases.

Sealion 6 is likely to get DM-i super plug-in hybrid system with 1.5 liter petrol engine. Its front-wheel drive variant can get around 218 bhp power and an electric-only range of up to 140 kilometers. Whereas in the top AWD Turbo variant, the power output can go up to 344 bhp.

BYD’s current EV lineup has already been in the news for its technology and battery efficiency.
