BYD in India is known for its electric SUVs and sedans. However, the brand is not just into family sedans, SUVs or crossovers. It also has a decent number of hybrid and performance cars in its international line-up. One of the products in its line-up is the U9 Xtreme, a flagship electric hypercar built by BYD’s luxury sub-brand, Yangwang. It is one of the fastest production-intent electric vehicles in the world. A video of the Yangwang U9X hypercar is now circulating online, showing the car crashing at a speed of 450 kmph during a high-speed test in China. The driver of the car surprisingly escaped the accident.
The video has been shared by multiple social media channels online. The one seen here was shared by Youcar on its YouTube channel. As per reports, the accident happened during a high-speed test ahead of an event. Before the actual event in Abu Dhabi, the Yangwang team conducted a preliminary test in China on 2 November, and the car was driven by its official test driver, Jiang Wen.
Yangwang was planning to conduct an open-road top-speed challenge in Abu Dhabi, and the tests were part of the preparations. During the 420-450 kmph high-speed test, the U9X hit the left-side guardrail, lost control and then crashed into the right-side guardrail.
While Yangwang has not revealed the actual speed at the time of the crash, it is pretty evident from the video that the crash happened at an extremely high speed. In the clip, we can easily see the device recording a speed of 446 kmph inside the cabin. The accident happened soon after that.

The video of the crash clearly shows that the sides, front and rear of the U9X are completely damaged in this high-speed crash. The cabin of the car looks intact, and the driver escaped the accident without any major injuries. The driver later mentioned that the vehicle experienced a drift during the high-speed run, and when he tried to correct the course, he lost control and crashed into the railings.
Thankfully, the cabin remained intact, and even the battery pack of the hypercar did not catch fire. This is actually a good example of how safely EV batteries are packaged by brands. Escaping a high-speed crash like this shows how seriously car brands have started taking overall structural integrity and safety features. BYD uses a Super Carbon-Fiber Cabin in the U9X, which is designed to provide high torsional rigidity while helping protect occupants in a crash.
The Yangwang U9X is actually the world’s fastest production car. On 14 September 2025, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme set a new global production car top-speed record of 496.22 km/h at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg test track in Germany. The U9X is a special car, as only 30 units of this car will be produced globally.
The U9X is based on a 1,200V ultra-high-voltage electrical platform supporting up to 1,000A. This electric hypercar comes with a quad-motor setup, and it generates around 3,000 PS and 3,360 Nm of torque. It uses an 80 kWh Blade Battery setup with an officially claimed range of 450 km.
