New Delhi: There is a lot of anger and protest across the country regarding the NEET exam leak, amid which the Central Government has decided to take strict action. The Union Cabinet has approved the Amendment Bill to the ‘Public Examinations Act, 2024’, which aims to completely eliminate the network of cheating mafias in the examination system.
Harsh punishment in new amendment bill
There is a provision for strict punishment in the new amendment bill. Strict action will be taken against those involved in exam rigging and paper leaks. He can face jail term of up to 10 years and a fine of up to Rs 10 crore. Apart from this, special fast-track courts will be created so that cases can be heard expeditiously and criminals can be punished as soon as possible.
PM Modi’s message to students
PM Narendra Modi has given a special message to the candidates and parents of the country. PM said that paper leak is not a normal incident. This is a deep blow to the hard work of lakhs of youth and their families. Taking strict action, the government has sent the main conspirators to jail and the results of the examination have been declared in a transparent manner.
CJP’s demonstration at Jantar Mantar
Cockroach Janata Party’s protest continues at Jantar Mantar. They are demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister, an impartial investigation, and a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of the students who lost their lives due to the NEET paper leak. Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has also fasted. So far, 13 accused have been arrested from different states under the CBI investigation.
Status of existing law (2024 Act)
Under the currently applicable law, there is a provision of 3 to 5 years in jail and a fine of Rs 10 lakh if an individual is found guilty. In case of gang or organized crime, there is a rule of imprisonment of 5 to 10 years and a fine of Rs 1 crore. If the examination agency is found guilty, it is banned for 4 years with a fine of Rs 1 crore. This crime is non-bailable, which is investigated by an officer of DSP or above. Now the government is making these provisions more stringent and preparing a legal framework for a fine of Rs 10 crore.
