Modern technologies like AI chatbots have become a part of our daily life without even realizing it. Even in the small tasks of life, AI is often used now. Should I write a letter asking for leave at work? Or the project of the house should be submitted after the night? Everyone is at the door of AI with a blink of an eye. And as a result, we share any personal information with AI Chatbot without question. But it is very important to be aware before such arbitrary use of AI.
A study by the 'Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI' looked at the 'privacy policies' of six major AI chatbot makers, including OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Amazon, Meta and Microsoft. And from that they came to the conclusion that 5 types of personal information should never be communicated to AI.
1. Personally Identifiable Information
It is better not to give your full name, home address, phone number, passport, Aadhaar, driving license or any other identification number to the chatbot. Not only typed data, but also uploaded files require the same caution. For example, if you want to fix a job CV with AI, it is best to remove addresses, phone numbers or other identifying information first.
2. Very personal matter
Conversations with AI chatbots often feel like normal conversations to us. As a result, many people write in detail about things like relationships, stress or personal problems. But before sharing such sensitive information, it is important to remember that chatbots do not claim any privacy-related legal protection.
3. Medical information
The trend of getting help from AI in health has increased lately. However, it is safe not to give disease report, medical history, prescription etc. directly to the chatbot. Even if you ask health related questions, you can get general information excluding personal identity.
4. Office Confidential Information
Internal company reports, client information, confidential documents or important contractual information should not be given to chatbots. Even with security measures in place, sharing such information may violate company policies or contractual terms.
5. Financial information
Keep bank account information, credit card numbers, payslips, tax documents or other financial information away from AI chatbots. Leakage of such information may create a risk of fraud.
If you have already shared any sensitive information, delete the chat history on the respective platform and check the 'privacy settings' with the help of an experienced person.
