Kannauj Gold Smuggling: A routine checking by the police on Agra-Lucknow Expressway suddenly turned into a major action. During patrolling, a Brezza car collided with a police car. After the accident the car riders started trying to run away. When the police became suspicious, they chased the car and stopped it. When the search was done, the police were also surprised to see the inside. About 10 kg of gold was recovered from the car, whose value is said to be around Rs 15 crore 39 lakh.
The matter is of Talgram police station area of Kannauj. According to the police, the team was doing routine patrolling on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway on Saturday. Meanwhile, a Brezza car going to Delhi collided with a police vehicle. After the accident, the car driver tried to run away, but the police chased him and stopped him.
During the search, 10 big gold biscuits were recovered from the car. According to the police, the gold is of 24 carats. Saroj Pant of Palpa district of Nepal and Sandeep Jaiswal of Maharajganj have been arrested in the case.
Gold consignment was received from Gorakhpur hotel
During interrogation, the accused told that they were given consignment of gold in a hotel in Gorakhpur. After this he had to be taken to Delhi. They did not have advance information as to who was to hand over the gold in Delhi. Police claim that the gold was being smuggled to Delhi via Nepal. Information about the matter has also been given to the Customs and GST departments.
Akhilesh’s allegations, police said misleading
Political controversy has also started regarding the recovery of gold. SP President Akhilesh Yadav claimed that 26 gold biscuits were found from the car, but the police showed only 10. He accused the police of manipulation in the recovery.
Kannauj Police has termed these allegations as completely false and misleading. According to the police, only 10 gold biscuits were recovered. The action was videographed and the GST team was also present on the spot. The police is now interrogating the arrested accused and gathering information about the entire network.
