CBI clean chit to alleged ‘mastermind’ of NEET paper leak Sanjeev Mukhia! Name missing from charge sheet
The NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case has taken a major turn. The CBI has said that Sanjeev Kumar alias Sanjeev Mukhia of Nalanda, who is being discussed as the alleged ‘mastermind’ in this case, has been given a clean chit. According to the Central Investigation Agency, no evidence has been found to prove Sanjeev Mukhia’s involvement in the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case. The Bihar Police had earlier made him an accused, but his name has not been included in the charge sheet after a CBI probe.

CBI did not find evidence against Sanjeev Mukhia in the investigation
The CBI said that initially Sanjeev Mukhia came under suspicion as his name had come up in the past in cases of question paper leakage or theft of other competitive examinations. On this basis Bihar Police made him an accused in the FIR of the NEET paper leak case. However, after the probe was handed over to the CBI, the agency conducted a detailed probe into the entire chain of paper leaks—from the initial leak of the question paper to its circulation to various individuals. The CBI has said that no evidence was found to prove the involvement of Sanjeev Mukhia during the investigation.

Charge sheet against 45 accused, name of Sanjeev Mukhia missing
The CBI has filed a chargesheet against 45 accused in the Patna court, but it does not include the name of Sanjeev Mukhia. According to the agency, he was granted bail by the court as there was no evidence against him in the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case. However, he remained in jail as an accused in other paper leak cases as well. The CBI says that the investigation into the NEET 2024 paper leak case is almost complete and the people involved in the conspiracy have been identified.

How was the controversy in the NEET paper leak case?
Before the NEET-UG examination in May 2024, a case came to light that some candidates received question papers in a school hostel in Patna. The investigation revealed a paper leak chain linked to Patna in Bihar and Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. Sanjeev Mukhia’s name came up as the alleged mastermind at the time. Earlier also, his name has been mentioned in cases related to medical examination 2010, Bihar constable recruitment 2016 and teacher recruitment 2020. There was a demand to cancel the exam after the paper leak, but the Supreme Court refused to cancel the entire exam as the leak was not widespread.
