CBS News Shocker: Major Executive To Exit Amid Leadership Restructuring

CBS News is restructuring its international coverage operations as the London Bureau Chief exits and a new foreign editor takes her place. CBS News President Tom Cibrowski reportedly communicated the change to staff on Monday. This is the latest change under editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and new owners Paramount-Skydance.

Claire Day is leaving CBS News as London Bureau Chief

Claire Day, who joined CBS News in 2002, will leave the network on May 1. Both parties mutually agreed upon her exit as the London bureau transitions to a different leadership model.

“Our London Bureau will be moving to a new editorial leadership structure, with the introduction of a Foreign Editor role overseeing all international coverage,” Cibrowski wrote in a memo to employees. “As part of this transition, it has been mutually agreed that Claire Day will leave us on May 1st.”

The network promoted Day to London bureau chief in May of last year. Before that, she worked as deputy bureau chief and director of news assignments. Her work got Emmy nominations for the network’s coverage of Israel, the coronation of King Charles, and for the CBS Evening News team.

CBS News president praised Claire Day’s contributions in the memo. “Since joining CBS News in 2002, Claire has been integral to our coverage of virtually every major international news event of our time, from war zones around the world to important leadership changes across the globe and of course, royal weddings,” he said (via Variety).

Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that Shayndi Raice, a longtime reporter and editorial executive at The Wall Street Journal, will likely take the newly created foreign editor position. Raice will base herself in London. Raice currently works as deputy bureau chief for the Middle East and North Africa for the Journal and operates out of Israel.
