Celina Jaitly Opens Up About ‘Bizarre’ Divorce Proceedings, Says Weightlifting Was Used Against Her

Mumbai: Actor Celina Jaitly has opened up about the difficult phase in her personal life, revealing that her fitness routine became a subject of discussion during her divorce proceedings.

Amid her ongoing divorce and allegations of domestic abuse against her husband, Peter Haag, Celina has also spoken about being separated from her three children and her brother’s detention in the UAE.

In her latest Instagram post, Celina revealed that she was questioned in court about spending around 1.5 hours a day working out.

Sharing a picture of herself at the gym, the actor penned a lengthy note about how exercise and discipline have helped her navigate some of the most challenging periods of her life.

She wrote, “Imagine having to defend weightlifting in court. Of all the things filed against me in my bizarre divorce proceedings, perhaps the most incomprehensible was having to answer for the fact that I spent 1.5 hours a day working out. Honestly, through some of the hardest chapters of my life, working out has been one of the few things that has consistently stood by me.”

She added, “My body has given birth to 2 sets of twins. It has been shook from, loss of a child, the loss of both my parents, twin #csection, dance injuries, the crisis that has befallen my family, trauma surrounding my brother, & now the unimaginable heartbreak of separation from my children.”

Celina explained that going to the gym gave her a space to channel her grief, anger, fear and anxiety while rebuilding herself during a period when she felt life was constantly testing her.

“After everything that life demanded of me, somehow that 1.5 hr of lifting weights became something I had to answer for in a COURT. I never thought I would need to be answerable for a value my Fauji father instilled in me from the day I was born. Discipline. Because showing up for yourself every day, whether through a sport, a workout or gym, equals discipline. Discipline equals accountability. & that becomes the example you set, specifically for your children,” she said.

Celina went on to question whether her fitness routine was really something she should have had to defend.

“Was it really wrong for me to lift weights for one & a half hours a day? Or was lifting those weights precisely what gave me the strength to carry everything else? The weight on the barbell was never the heaviest weight I carried. It was simply the one weight I could choose to put down,” she added.

In 2025, Celina filed a domestic violence case against Peter Haag in a Mumbai court.

Police later registered an FIR against him and issued a Lookout Circular, citing his alleged non-cooperation with the investigation.

The case involves allegations of cruelty, physical harm, criminal intimidation and harassment.
