Center's clarification on satellite internet issue: Services will start only after security check, India and abroad – REVOI

New Delhi, 9 October 2026: Amid the controversy over the license of Elon Musk's company 'Starlink', Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has clarified the stand of the Indian government. He refuted Musk's allegations in strong words and said that India will not accept the monopoly of any one company in any field. All eligible companies are being given equal opportunity for satellite communication services in the country.

Giving information, the Union Minister said that at present, licenses have been given to three leading companies to provide satellite communication services in India. Which includes Reliance Jio, OneWeb and Elon Musk's Starlink. Apart from this, global giant Amazon is also completing the process of obtaining the necessary licenses to start its satellite services in India.

Scindia had clarified that Elon Musk's company Starlink has also been approved for license, but before starting commercial services, it is mandatory for all companies to complete security related checks and conditions as per rules. He added that instead of purchasing spectrum for satellite services, it has been decided to allocate it administratively and currently work is going on between TRAI and the Department of Telecommunications to fix the prices.

Earlier, Elon Musk had made serious allegations that due to influential business interest groups in India, there is a delay in giving necessary permissions to his company Starlink to start services. Countering Musk's claim, the Communications Ministry has clarified that all three companies are currently at the same stage of the regulatory process and their security clearance is being investigated by the Home Ministry.

Union Minister of State for Communications, Dr. Chandrashekhar Pemmasani also clarified on this issue and said that the Telecom Department has allotted temporary spectrum and licenses to all the satcom companies for trial. Now only the final security clearance is awaited from the Home Ministry, so this matter is not linked to any particular company.
