New Delhi. To further strengthen rail connectivity in the country, the Central Government has approved four major multitracking projects. About Rs 9,450 crore will be spent on these projects. With the construction of new tracks, the capacity of the rail network will increase in 8 districts of West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Rail capacity will increase by 410 kilometers
After the completion of these four projects, about 410 kilometers of additional capacity is expected to be added to the railway network. The government aims to complete these schemes by the year 2030-31. Availability of more tracks will make it easier to run trains on busy routes and reduce traffic pressure.
Which railway projects got approval?
Under the approval of the Union Cabinet, about Rs 3,352 crore will be spent on the Kharagpur-Bhadrak-Ranital fourth line project. Meanwhile, approximately Rs 1,583 crore has been sanctioned for the Bhadrak-Haridaspur fourth line. Apart from this, about Rs 2,229 crore will be spent on Gummidipundi-Gudur third and fourth line project and about Rs 2,286 crore will be spent on Cuttack-Paradip third and fourth line project.
Along with passengers, freight also benefits.
The construction of new tracks will not only improve the movement of passenger trains, but will also provide additional capacity for the operation of goods trains. This can speed up delivery of goods to industries and business areas. These projects will also play an important role in increasing the number of trains on busy railway routes and making operations more smooth.
