Central government releases ₹1.09 lakh crore as tax share to states.

Uttar Pradesh received Rs 19,208 crore, Bihar Rs 10,845 crore and Punjab Rs 2,176 crore.

New Delhi: The central government has released a large instalment of tax share to strengthen the financial position of states and boost capital expenditure. According to a statement from the Finance Ministry, a total advance instalment of Rs 1,09,019 crore has been released to the states on August 1, 2026.

Under this special distribution, Punjab received a share of ₹2,176 crore. Uttar Pradesh received the highest share of ₹19,208 crore. Bihar received ₹10,845 crore, Madhya Pradesh ₹8,010 crore, West Bengal ₹7,866 crore, and Maharashtra ₹7,022 crore. Haryana received ₹1,484 crore.

Giving information, an official statement from the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said that “This money is in line with the Government of India’s commitment to strengthen the finances of the states, so as to accelerate their development and capital expenditure.” As per the current rules, 41 per cent of the taxes collected by the Centre are distributed among the states in 14 installments during a financial year.
