That means which businesses will get this fund”text-align: justify;”>The government had announced this fund in the Union Budget 2026-27. It aims to provide equity support to businesses that can scale up and become larger businesses.
Why the need for Rs 10,000 crore fund?
MSMEs are an important part of the country's economy. From small towns to large industrial areas, millions of businesses operate in this sector. But the biggest challenge many small businesses face is capital. Whether expanding the business, buying new machinery, increasing production or entering new markets, they need funds. In such a situation, taking a bank loan is not an easy option for every business owner. This government fund is designed to provide equity support to help such businesses grow.
Who will benefit?
This fund is not a direct distribution scheme to every MSME. The government has designed it to promote promising industries based on selected criteria. This means that companies with potential to grow rapidly can be given equity support through this fund. The government's aim is to develop businesses that can become large and strong Indian industries.
Will it be a loan?
SME Growth Fund is not a bank loan. The government has proposed this as equity support for MSMEs. It aims to provide growth capital to businesses that need capital for expansion. Hence, the process of getting this funding may be different from a normal business loan.
Is the government only providing financial assistance?
No, in Budget 2026-27, the government has planned three tiers for the MSME sector namely equity support, liquidity support and professional support. Apart from the SME Growth Fund of ₹10,000 crore, an additional ₹2,000 crore is also proposed in the Atmanirbhar Bharat Fund. It aims to help micro enterprises maintain access to risk capital. Additionally, the government has announced several measures related to TReDS to address payment and working capital issues of MSMEs.
