Central Govt Cabinet Decision : Central GovtA major decision has been taken and important information regarding the social welfare schemes of the Center is coming to light. The names of widow, disabled and old age pension schemes provided by the central government will be changed. Apart from this, the name of National Family Benefit Scheme will also be changed now. Importantly, the mention of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's name in the names of these schemes will be deleted.

Old age pension scheme has been renamed
It has been informed that the name of Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme will be changed to Pradhan Mantri Old Age Pension. Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided to eligible senior citizens in the form of pension.
New name for widow pension scheme
It is said that the name of Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme will be changed to Pradhan Mantri Widow Pension Scheme. The main objective of such social security schemes is to provide financial support to eligible women who have lost their husbands.
Changes in Disability Pension Scheme too
Information has come to light that the name of Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Yojana will be changed to Divyangjan Pension Yojana. There has also been a change in this scheme which provides financial assistance to disabled citizens.
Beneficiaries in the age group of 0 to 79 years will now get Rs 375 per month under the Disability Pension Scheme, and Rs 625 per month to the beneficiaries in the age group of 80 years and above.

- The minimum eligibility age for Disability Pension will be applicable from birth.

The name of the National Family Benefit Scheme was also changed
It is said that the name of National Family Benefit Yojana will be changed to Pradhan Mantri Parivar Benefit Yojana. The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to the eligible family in case of death of the main earner of the family.
What will benefit the beneficiaries?
Although it has been reported that the names of these four schemes will change, the mere name change will not change the benefit amount, eligibility criteria or even the application process.
This decision will benefit a total of 3.20 crore beneficiaries across all 36 states and Union Territories of the country.
Implementation strategy and objectives
The guidelines containing changes in eligibility criteria, number of beneficiaries and amount of financial assistance of Disability Pension Scheme will be issued and implemented within 3 months.

As Indira Gandhi's name will be removed from these plans, now there is a possibility of a spark of controversy and it will be important to see how the opposition will react to this.
