Ram Temple Donation Theft Case: Champat Rai, the former general secretary of the trust and trustee Anil Mishra have got a big relief in the case of the alleged theft of the mount in Ayodhya’s Ram temple. The names of both were not included in the final SIT report. The report was handed over to the government and has now been handed over to the Sriram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust for further action.
According to sources, the final report has included the names of only eight people, who have already been arrested. Champat Rai and Anil Mishra were the most accused after the case of theft of chadhava came to light. After that, both of them resigned from their positions.
However, another SIT constituted under the supervision of the Supreme Court is still probing the matter.
Champat Rai was targeted by the opposition
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav first raised the issue of theft of Ram temple donation on June 7. In response, Champat Rai shared the video and dismissed the allegations as false. Even after that, Akhilesh Yadav continued to attack him.
Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh had also been questioning Champat Rai over the land related allegations earlier. Amid growing pressure, the SIT was formed on June 13 at the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the demand of the Sriram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust.
A preliminary investigation confirmed the theft
A preliminary investigation by the SIT confirmed the theft of donations. The investigation also revealed that around Rs 80 lakh was recovered without informing the police. After this report, the pressure on Champat Rai increased and during this period Champat Rai and Anil Mishra resigned from their posts.
On June 23, the SIT submitted its preliminary report to the government. A case was then registered at the Sriram Janmabhoomi Police Station on June 25 based on a written complaint by Krishnamohan, a member of the trust. Eight persons including Avrat Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav were arrested in this case.
70 times on CCTV about carrying cash
According to the preliminary SIT report, the CCTV footage between April 27 and June 5, 2026, showed the movement of the employees carrying cash around 70 times.
The report also stated that the joint standard operating procedures of the trust and SBI were not properly followed. Employees were also not screened at entry and exit points.
The Supreme Court asked the SIT to complete the investigation expeditiously
In this matter, the Supreme Court has directed the Special Investigation Team to complete the investigation quickly and reach a proper conclusion. The court also ordered the SIT to submit the investigation report in a sealed cover.
