Punjab News: The security forces have taken control of the situation even before a major and sensational incident could take place in Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana. An incident of discovery of suspected explosives and deadly weapons has come to light just behind the Interstate Bus Terminal located in Sector 43, one of the busiest areas of the city. As soon as the police got wind of this, there was a commotion in the entire administrative and security staff. The police team took swift action and detained three suspicious people from the spot. After this recovery, surveillance has been increased in every nook and corner of the city so that any kind of threat can be dealt with.
Major action taken on confidential information
According to police officials, the security branch had already received input that some anti-social elements were seen with suspicious material around the bus stand. As soon as the information was received, the police and special operations team of Police Station 36 jointly surrounded the entire area from all sides. An intensive search operation was started by temporarily blocking all roads leading to the area. During the search of bushes and deserted paths, IED-like devices and other weapons hidden on the ground were recovered. Arrest and interrogation of three suspects
During the operation, the police surrounded and arrested three youths. Preliminary interrogation of the arrested accused has been started. The police is trying to find out from where these people got such dangerous goods and what was the main means of bringing it inside the city. The biggest question is whether any big gang or network sitting across the border was working behind these accused. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections in Police Station 36 and their mobile phones and other electronic devices have also been seized and sent for technical investigation.
Suspected of targeting crowded areas
The bus terminal of Sector 43 is the center of movement of thousands of passengers every day. From here, buses run regularly to Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan. In such a situation, the discovery of explosives near the bus stand strengthens the suspicion that a plan was being made to spread terror in a crowded place. Initial investigation has not ruled out any possible terrorist conspiracy, although senior police officials are avoiding reaching any concrete conclusions until the entire investigation is completed. Officials say that the veracity of the statements of the accused is being investigated.
Tight security arrangements across the city
As soon as this incident came to light, Chandigarh Police has increased vigilance in the entire city. Additional police forces have been deployed outside railway stations, other bus stands, major markets and sensitive buildings. Strict checking of vehicles is being done at the entry gates of the city at night. Security agencies say that there will be no compromise with the safety of citizens and by reaching the root of the entire network, all those involved in this conspiracy will be exposed.
