Char Dham Yatra 2026: Permanent security work will be done in sensitive areas of Char Dham Yatra routes, instructions to speed up development projects

Char Dham Yatra 2026: Garhwal Mandal Administration has taken important steps towards making Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand more safe, easy and hassle-free. Permanent security works will be carried out in the sensitive and landslide affected areas located on the Chardham Yatra routes, so that the devotees do not have to face any kind of problem during the yatra.

Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Anand Swarup gave clear instructions in the review meeting of the departments related to construction and infrastructure on Tuesday that all the work related to the safety of passengers should be completed on top priority. He said that any kind of negligence will not be accepted in development projects.

Emphasis on permanent solution to landslide affected areas

In the meeting held in the Commissioner Auditorium, the works of 14 departments including National Highways, Public Works Department (PWD), NHAI were reviewed. Divisional Commissioner directed that permanent treatment should be given to the serious and high-risk places identified on the Chardham Yatra route.

He said that in areas where landslides occur every year, long term safety measures should be implemented so that the Yatra can be conducted uninterrupted.

Instructions to complete final phase projects this year

Instructions were also given in the meeting to regularly review bypass, tunnel and other major road projects. Divisional Commissioner said that the projects which have reached the final stage should be completed this year and dedicated to the public.

Apart from this, instructions were given to provide assembly-wise details of development works conducted in all 41 assembly constituencies of Garhwal division, approved budget, date of commencement of work and current progress report.

Also asked for progress report of Chief Minister’s announcements

The Divisional Commissioner also asked to present the updated status of the schemes approved under the announcements of the Chief Minister. He instructed the officials to ensure regular monitoring of the projects.

Special vigilance in view of rainy season

In view of the monsoon, all officers were instructed to provide daily status reports of closed and operational roads. Also, emphasis was laid on ensuring repair of damaged roads in disaster affected areas on priority basis.

He also instructed the officials to monitor the quality of construction works by conducting regular on-site inspections.

Different departments received different instructions

During the department-wise review during the meeting, the Irrigation Department was asked to prepare a detailed report on measures to stop river erosion in Harsil area. The Minor Irrigation Department was instructed to prepare an action plan for the revival of closed canals.

The Drinking Water Corporation was directed to quickly start the schemes pending due to forest clearance and other formalities, while the Jal Sansthan was directed to expedite the drinking water supply and repair works of damaged assets.

Apart from this, Bridkul was asked to expedite the pending projects and complete the construction of the academic and administrative building of Sridev Suman Uttarakhand University, Rishikesh by July 15.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, special emphasis was laid on expediting the construction and repair works of rural connectivity roads.
