Seeing bargain offers on Facebook? One mistake can make your bank account empty, big alert from police
CRPF Scam: If you ever see a post on Facebook claiming to sell fridge, TV, sofa or other household items at very cheap prices, then be careful. These days, cyber thugs are adopting new methods to trap people. Through such posts they claim that the goods belong to CRPF, Army or Police personnel who have been transferred and hence they are hastily selling their household goods. On this pretext, people are being cheated by taking advance payment.
Fake Facebook account created in the name of DCP
PTI reported that Bengaluru’s Electronic City DCP M. Narayan has appealed to the people to be cautious about this new cyber fraud. He said that cyber criminals have created a fake Facebook profile in the name of Narayan M, IPS and through that, people are being lured with cheap household goods. DCP gave this information through a video in which he said, ‘Thugs say that this stuff belongs to the CRPF army, or those police personnel who have been transferred. They want to sell their household items.”
This is how complete fraud happens
If we look at the method of this fraud, the criminals first promise to sell the goods at attractive prices. When a person is ready to buy, he is asked to transfer token money or the entire advance online. As soon as the money is sent, the fraudsters switch off the mobile number and end all contact. On this matter, police say that cases of such fraud have been registered in many areas including Hebbagodi, Vijayapura and Kolar. The DCP has clarified that he has never asked anyone to sell or buy any item on his behalf.

Pay special attention to these things
Regarding such matters, experts say that not every offer seen on social media is trustworthy. Never make token money or advance payment to any unknown person without seeing the goods. First confirm the identity of the seller, check the actual condition of the item and deal face to face if possible. If you become a victim of such fraud, lodge a complaint without any delay at the nearest police station or cyber crime cell. A little vigilance can save you from big financial loss.
