Chelsea reject multiple offers for Josh Acheampong, defender declared untouchable under Xabi Alonso: Report

Chelsea have made a resounding statement of intent as they begin to shape their squad for the Xabi Alonso era: Josh Acheampong is going nowhere. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have rebuffed interest from clubs across Europe, including two from the Premier League, in the highly-rated young defender, who has been officially declared untouchable at Stamford Bridge.

The decision is notable not just for its finality, but for what it represents structurally. It is reported to be the first decision made jointly between Chelsea and incoming head coach Xabi Alonsosignalling that the Spaniard has been closely consulted on squad-planning well before his tenure officially begins. For a club that has often been criticised for a disconnect between its coaching staff and transfer operations, this alignment carries significant weight.

Who is Josh Acheampong?

Born on 5 May 2006, Acheampong is a product of Chelsea’s Cobham academy and has already established himself as one of the most coveted young defenders in European football. Versatile enough to play as a right-back or right-sided centre-back, the 19-year-old brings an impressive combination of athleticism, defensive instincts, and technical quality to Chelsea’s backline.

Across 16 appearances in the 2025–26 season, Acheampong averaged 3.56 recoveries, 1.50 interceptions and 1.50 tackles per 90 minutes, alongside a 92.2% pass-completion rate — numbers that make him an ideal profile for Alonso’s possession-oriented, high-pressing system.

Acheampong scored his first senior goal for Chelsea in October 2025 during a 3–0 away win against Nottingham Forest, and has continued to build on that momentum as the season progressed. His contract, extended to June 2029, provides Chelsea with long-term security over one of their most prized assets.
