Check Bounce Case: Delhi High Court sentences Rajpal Yadav to 3 months jail, fine of Rs 7.35 crore remains intact

The legal troubles of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav have increased once again. The Delhi High Court has upheld his conviction in seven cases related to check bounce and sentenced him to three months in jail. Along with this, the court has also imposed a total fine of Rs 7.35 crore on him. In the hearing held on Friday, July 10, the High Court upheld the decision of the lower court and rejected his petition.

The court has sentenced three months’ imprisonment separately in all seven cases. However, all the sentences will run concurrently. This means that Rajpal Yadav will have to spend a total of three months in jail.

Why did the court uphold the conviction?

The bench of Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma said that Rajpal Yadav was given several chances to comply with his undertaking given in the court, but he did not comply with the conditions despite getting repeated opportunities. On this basis, the High Court upheld his conviction and sentence.

Fine of Rs 7.35 crore

The court has imposed a fine of Rs 1.05 crore in each case. Accordingly, the total fine in seven cases comes to Rs 7.35 crore. According to the order, in each case Rs 1 crore 4 lakh 75 thousand will be given to the complainant and Rs 25 thousand will be given to the state.

What is the whole check bounce issue?

This case is related to Rajpal Yadav’s film ‘Ata Pata Lapata’ released in 2010. He had taken financial assistance of Rs 5 crore for the production of the film. The actor claimed that it was not a loan but an investment. Due to non-payment, the amount increased to around Rs 9 crore, after which the matter reached the court. In this case, he also surrendered in Tihar Jail on 5 February 2026.

Had given big claims earlier also

After coming out of jail, Rajpal Yadav had claimed that he has work worth up to Rs 1200 crore from branding and other projects. Describing himself as a “walking chequebook”, he had said that the livelihood of many people depends on his work. Recently he was also seen in films like ‘Bhoot Bangla’ and ‘Welcome to the Jungle’.
