Chhattisgarh Diamond: Treasure more valuable than gold found in Chhattisgarh! 5 real diamonds found from 200 tons of debris
Such a wonderful and shocking good news has come out from the rich land of Chhattisgarh, which has attracted the attention of the entire country’s mineral world overnight. Scientists have achieved a huge success in Mahasamund district of the state. During the scientific exploration conducted in ‘Baloda Belmundi Diamond Block’ under Saraipali area here, when 200 tonnes of mineral material was processed, five real sparkling diamonds were recovered from it.
The total weight of these five diamonds has been measured at 1.22 carats. Geologists and mineralogists are considering this discovery as a very historic and important achievement for India. Experts say that the finding of diamonds at the initial level is a strong proof that there are large and extremely valuable reserves of diamonds hidden beneath this entire area, the possibilities of which have now become stronger.
NMDC and CMDC officially confirmed, goods sent to Panna
This amazing and big discovery has been officially confirmed by ‘NMDC-CMDC Limited’, a joint company of NMDC and Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC). According to the information given by the company, first stream sediment sampling, state-of-the-art geophysical survey and exploratory drilling about 500 meters deep were done in this area, after which this potential diamond area was identified.
After this, 200 tonnes of debris and material were loaded in trucks and sent to the country’s famous Diamond Processing Plant located in Panna, Madhya Pradesh for thorough investigation. When this material was examined closely, five real diamonds were found in it. The company has confirmed this entire operation and success through an official letter issued on 22 June 2026. It has also been made clear in this government letter that at present, NMDC-CMDC in Chhattisgarh does not have any strong safe or system to keep these precious diamonds safe, hence for security reasons, all these 5 diamonds have been immediately deposited in the highly secured ‘strong room’ of NMDC located in Panna, Madhya Pradesh.
The diamonds found include the most precious ‘gem quality’ white diamonds.
The texture and color of these diamonds that came from the womb of Mahasamund are very interesting. These include two of the finest ‘Gem Quality’ white diamonds weighing 0.19 and 0.06 carats respectively. Apart from these, a bright yellow colored diamond has been found whose weight is 0.32 carats, while two brown colored diamonds have also been found whose weight has been recorded as 0.59 and 0.06 carats. Mineral experts are most enthusiastic about the fact that finding ‘Gem Quality’ diamonds at the very initial and primary stage of exploration is a very positive and big sign. This clearly shows that in the future, when large scale excavation takes place here, huge quantities of high quality diamonds will be found.
What are these ‘gem quality’ diamonds and why are they so special?
It is very important for common readers to know what ‘Gem Quality’ diamonds are. In fact, gem quality diamonds are considered to be the best and highest grade in the world. These are mainly used to make luxurious and expensive jewellery. These diamonds naturally have amazing shine, excellent transparency and a wonderful color. Both the white diamonds found in Mahasamund belong to this category, which are many times better and more valuable than normal diamonds.
In contrast, non-gem quality diamonds are used in industrial applications such as glass cutting tools or drilling machines. Since the gem quality goes directly to the jewelery industry, their price in the international market is very high and runs into crores. Experts believe that any new diamond mine is always identified by such small samples, so even though these five diamonds may seem small in number, from geological point of view it is a fate-changing discovery of Chhattisgarh, which has cleared the way for commercial mining.
Self-reliant India will gain momentum, India is the world’s biggest hub
You will be surprised to know that India is considered to be the biggest hub of diamond cutting and polishing in the whole world, but despite this, the production of rough diamonds in our country is very less and for this we have to depend on heavy imports from other countries. In such a situation, this discovery of raw diamonds in the Mahasamund of Chhattisgarh will rapidly move the country towards the dream of ‘self-reliant India’. When full commercial mining starts here, huge foreign investment will come within the state of Chhattisgarh, thousands of new employment opportunities will be created for the local youth and the state government will also see a bumper increase in tax.
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai expressed happiness, said- new door of progress will open
Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Vishnu Dev Sai has expressed immense happiness on this historic success of Chhattisgarh. The Chief Minister said in his statement that this discovery of diamonds in Saraipali area of Mahasamund district is a very important and glorious achievement for the history of Chhattisgarh. This historical discovery once again proves how rich our land of Chhattisgarh Mahtari is with mineral wealth. Along with this, this big success is going to open new doors for all-round development of the state, new industrial investment and immense employment possibilities for the local people.
At present, after this major discovery, NMDC-CMDC Limited has sought policy guidance from the state government for further major excavation and legal action. Mining experts across the country claim that if everything goes according to plan, then in the coming few years Chhattisgarh will be seen standing at the first position in the list of the most prominent diamond producing states of the country.
