Family members kept waiting for ambulance, did not get help

According to the information, Savita Vishwakarma, resident of Hathora village of Amarwada development block of Chhindwara district, suddenly started labor pain on Wednesday. The family members immediately informed the government ambulance service, but the ambulance could not reach the village for a long time. The river flowing between the village and the hospital and the lack of a bridge there became the biggest challenge for the family members.

Four youths carried the cot on their shoulders and set out to cross the river.

When there was no other option left, the family and village people together laid Savita on the cot. After this, four youths lifted the cot on their shoulders and set out to cross the river. At that time the water level in the river was relatively low, due to which the path could somehow be crossed. However, while crossing the river, Savita’s labor pains intensified. The situation became so serious that even before reaching the hospital, she gave birth to a child on the way. The people present at the spot immediately made arrangements for the care of the mother and the newborn.

Bike became support after river

Even after crossing the river, it was not easy to reach the hospital. Due to the road ahead being unpaved and ambulance not available, the family members took the mother and the newborn to Amarwada Civil Hospital by bike. On reaching the hospital, the doctors admitted both of them and started necessary treatment.

What did the doctor say?

According to Dr. Karush Thakur, Block Medical Officer, Amarwada, the ambulance service was informed on time by the Asha worker, but the ambulance could not reach the village on time. He told that due to there being no bridge on the river, the family members were taking the woman to the hospital on the help of a cot and during this time the delivery took place. After examination in the hospital, the condition of both the mother and the newborn is said to be normal and healthy.

The video of this entire incident is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In the video, some people are seen carrying a pregnant woman on a cot. After the video surfaced, people have raised questions about the lack of roads, bridges and health facilities in rural areas. Local villagers say that if there was a concrete road to the village, a bridge over the river and timely ambulance service, the pregnant woman would not have had to be taken to the hospital risking her life. This incident once again forces one to think that even today lack of basic facilities remains a big challenge for the people in many rural areas of the country.
