Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. Joseph Vijay will launch 1 gram gold ring scheme for newborns on September 28. The Tamil Nadu government made this announcement today (Friday). 1.28 lakh gold rings have been purchased for distribution in the first phase of this scheme. This gift will be given to all children born in government hospitals. According to a government publication, the gold ring will have a unique serial number. To avail this scheme, the beneficiaries should be permanent residents of Tamil Nadu.
It may be noted that the manifesto released ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections made many big promises. It also had a plan to provide 1 gram gold rings for newborns. Now that Vijay has become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, he is working to fulfill his promises.
TVK named the scheme “Thai Maman Gold Ring Scheme” in its manifesto. The manifesto stated that it would celebrate the birth of every child in Tamil Nadu. Under this scheme, every newborn baby will receive a gold ring as a blessing from the Tamil Nadu government. A “Baby Welcome Kit” will also be provided, containing essential items like nutritional supplements, good quality baby soap, baby clothes, baby oil, baby powder, toys, napkins, mosquito nets and diapers.
