Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will launch the Chief Minister Sugam Transport Service from Dussehra Ground in Bhopal on 25th September. In the first phase, 351 buses will be flagged off for 7 cities.
Tezzbuzz DeskMadhya Pradesh government is going to take a big step towards providing safe, accessible, modern and environment-friendly public transport facilities to the citizens of the state. The Chief Minister Sugam Transport Service of the Transport Department will be launched on 25 September 2026. In the state level program organized at Dussehra ground in Bhopal, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will flag off 351 buses in the initial phase.
The objective of this service is to improve connectivity between different cities of the state, to provide relief to daily commuters and to promote environment-friendly public transport. Under the Chief Minister Sugam Parivahan Seva, operation of about 1500 buses will be started in the state.
The 351 buses leaving in the first phase have been divided into two categories. There will be 120 intercity buses, which will make travel between two or more cities easier and faster. At the same time, 231 intracity buses will provide safe, affordable and convenient transport service to the passengers within the cities.
The first phase will start from 7 cities
In the first phase of Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva, buses will be started in 7 major cities of the state. These include Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Dewas, Katni and Bhind.
A total of 145 buses will run in Indore, of which 50 will be intercity and 95 intracity buses. 106 buses will operate in Bhopal, which includes 23 intercity and 83 intracity buses. 67 buses will run in Jabalpur, of which 14 will be intercity and 53 intracity buses. Apart from this, 18 intercity buses will be sent to Rewa, 10 to Dewas, 3 to Katni and 2 to Bhind.
By 2031, 75 percent gram panchayats will be connected to bus service.
Under the government plan, a target has been set to connect 75 percent of the gram panchayats of the state with bus service by the year 2031. Along with this, there is a plan to operate more than 15,000 modern public buses across the state. According to the government, this will provide safe transportation facility to more than 30 lakh passengers every day.
Apart from this, there is also a plan to rejuvenate more than 180 modern bus stands, terminals and depots.
The government will also lay special emphasis on clean fuel and expansion of electric buses to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions. Along with promoting electric mobility in the public transport system, the infrastructure related to it will also be developed.
Real time monitoring of buses will be done through ITMS
Under Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva, buses will be monitored through Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS). For this, state-of-the-art command-control centers have been established in Madhya Pradesh Passenger Transport and Infrastructure Limited (MPYPIL) and its 7 subsidiary companies.
Through these centres, the location, operation, punctuality and other activities of buses will be monitored in real time. Safety of women and children has also been given priority in public buses. All buses are being equipped with 07 CCTV cameras, panic buttons and real-time vehicle location tracking (VLTD) system.
Apart from this, preparations are being made to provide safe and timely travel facilities to the passengers through Passenger Information System (PIS), technical training of drivers and quick complaint redressal system.
Participation of private operators through PPP model
Transparent contracting system and incentive schemes will be implemented to promote Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in public transport system. This will enable private bus operators to stop revenue leakages, increase non-fare revenue such as advertising and cargo services and utilize modern depots and terminals. Necessary support will also be provided by the administration in this.
The expansion of smooth passenger transport service is expected to create new opportunities for employment and investment in the transport sector of the state. With bus operations, investment opportunities in vehicle manufacturing, electric mobility, charging infrastructure, technical services and other related sectors will increase.
This is likely to encourage transport related industries and also create new employment and self-employment opportunities for the youth.
