China: A horrific accident in a coal mine, 82 people lost their lives in a gas explosion; Many workers still trapped

New Delhi. At least 82 people died in a massive gas explosion in a coal mine in Shanxi, northern province of China. According to government media, the accident occurred on Friday evening at the Liushenyu coal mine in Changzhi city, where a large number of workers were working underground at the time of the explosion.

How many workers are likely to be trapped?

According to the report of government news agency Xinhua, according to initial information, about 247 workers were feared trapped in the mine. On Saturday morning, the agency had earlier informed about the death of eight people and 38 laborers were trapped, but later the death toll increased to 82.

President Jinping gave many instructions

After the accident, relief and rescue operations have been intensified. Rescue teams are continuously trying to reach the workers trapped inside the mine. Officials said that investigation into the cause of the explosion has been started. After the incident, Chinese President Xi Jinping has given instructions to make every possible effort to treat the injured and rescue the trapped people.

The real reason for the explosion is still not clear

President Xi Jinping has asked for a high-level investigation into the accident and strict action should be taken against the culprits. According to government media, the officials operating the mine have been detained. Although the real cause of the explosion is not yet clear, but in the initial investigation, the level of carbon monoxide gas inside the mine was found to be much higher than the prescribed limit. This gas is extremely poisonous and odorless, which can prove fatal in closed spaces.

After the accident, China’s Ministry of Emergency Management has sent 345 employees of six rescue teams to the spot for relief work. Rescue teams are continuously trying to remove the debris and reach the people trapped inside the mine.

Such an accident had happened before also

It is noteworthy that in the early 2000s, such fatal accidents were common in China’s coal mines. Although safety standards have been tightened in the last few years, this latest accident has once again raised questions on the safety of mines.
