New Delhi: At the BRICS Summit 2026 held in Delhi, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized on improving relations with India and strengthening the role of the Global South. He said that the world is changing rapidly and no country can remain in a strong position forever. According to the statement issued by China's Foreign Ministry, Xi Jinping also thanked India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hosting the BRICS meeting.
Jinping said that big and historic changes are taking place in the world. At such a time, the unity and increasing influence of developing countries is playing an important role in making the world multipolar.
International rules should be made with the participation of all countries: Jinping
Xi Jinping described the current global situation as unstable and full of risks. He said that in such an environment, BRICS countries should play a leadership role and become a positive force for world peace and stability by uniting the developing countries.
Emphasizing international rules and equality, he compared it to an intersection where the absence of traffic lights can lead to chaos. He said that the rules of the world should not be decided on the basis of the wishes of any one powerful country, but with the participation of all the countries.
The era of arbitrariness based on force must end
The Chinese President said that the attitude of getting one's point across only through force should no longer be acceptable. He appealed to developing countries to come together to protect international rules.
He stressed the need for respect for sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and peaceful resolution of disputes. Jinping also said that international laws should apply equally to all countries and double standards should be avoided.
He said that every country, big or small, rich or poor, deserves respect. The countries of the Global South should work towards strengthening multilateralism and the role of the United Nations, so that all countries can have equal participation in global affairs.
Emphasis on reforming WTO and financial system
Jinping talked about reforming the World Trade Organization (WTO), promoting fair trade rules and supporting the New Development Bank (NDB). Pointing out the need to reform the international financial system, he stressed on increasing the voice and representation of developing countries.
Priority given to development in the interest of the people
The Chinese President said that to achieve big goals, it is necessary to keep the interests of the people at the center of development. He called on developing countries to work together to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs.
Referring to China's initiatives, he said that under the Global Development Initiative, China has completed more than 2,000 projects in more than 120 countries and more than two lakh people have been trained. He also said that China has provided zero-tariff trade facilities to 53 African countries that have diplomatic relations with it.
Appeal for cooperation on climate change and AI also
Jinping stressed the need to work on the root causes of global challenges to solve them. He appealed to countries to jointly deal with traditional and non-traditional security threats and fully implement the Paris Climate Agreement.
On Artificial Intelligence i.e. AI, he said that the development of technology should be for human welfare and goodness. For this, there is a need to make rules with consensus at the global level, so that the benefits of new technology can reach all countries equally.
Agreement reached between India and China on these 7 issues
During the BRICS conference, emphasis was laid on taking forward the relations between India and China from a strategic and long-term perspective. The major issues on which consensus emerged between the two countries include:
- India-China relations will be viewed from a strategic and long-term perspective.
- The differences between the two countries will be avoided from turning into disputes.
- Emphasis will be on finding a fair and acceptable solution to the border dispute.
- Trade and cultural relations will be taken forward.
- Efforts will be made to increase movement between citizens of the two countries.
- Solutions to economic and business concerns will be found.
- India-China cooperation will be enhanced on regional and global challenges.
PM Modi's diplomacy also tested in BRICS
The entire world's eyes remained on India during the hosting of BRICS conference in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's diplomacy was also tested. The manifesto related to the conference and the issues that emerged are being seen as important diplomatic achievements for India.

An important point is that China has said to support India's claim for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council i.e. UNSC. This stance of China is considered important for India.
