Chinese actor Wang Yibo samples durian during Malaysia food tour

Chinese actor Wang Yibo has been exploring Malaysia’s food scene ahead of an upcoming racing competition, stopping for a bowl of bak kut teh and sampling durian at a popular night-time food street in Kuala Lumpur.

The 29-year-old was spotted dining with his racing team at a claypot bak kut teh restaurant in Pudu on Oct. 14 before heading to Jalan Alor in Bukit Bintang later that evening to try durian, The Star newspaper reported.

Malaysian bak kut teh is known for its rich, dark broth, made by slowly simmering pork ribs with a blend of Chinese medicinal herbs and spices. The traditional dish is also recognized as part of Malaysia’s national food heritage.

Primarily grown in tropical countries like Malaysia, durians are distinctive for their large size, strong odor, and thorn-covered rind.

Since 2024, Malaysia has introduced durian-themed tour packages that take visitors to orchards while offering activities such as glamping and jungle trekking.

The country also hosts all-you-can-eat durian buffets during the peak harvest season to attract more tourists.

Wang is in Malaysia to prepare for the season finale of the 2026 China GT Championship, scheduled to take place at the Sepang International Circuit from Nov. 6 to Nov. 8.

Malaysia’s tourism sector continues to show positive momentum, recording 28.8 million international visitors from January to August this year, up 1.8% year on year and retaining its crown as Southeast Asia’s most visited country.
