Airport police said Wednesday they had received a letter of appreciation from Chinese tourist Jiming Shi after officers recovered and returned her boyfriend’s Rolex watch, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.
In the letter, Jiming praised the officers for their professionalism, dedication and sense of responsibility.
Jiming reported around 7 p.m. on Monday that her boyfriend’s watch had gone missing before boarding a flight from Phu Quoc to Xi’an Xianyang International Airport in China, Thanh Nien newspaper reported.

Police immediately stepped in to trace the lost watch.
Investigation found that the couple’s two suitcases had collided on the baggage screening conveyor belt, causing one bag to open and the watch to fall out unnoticed.
Officers also asked passengers waiting behind the couple at the security checkpoint to help search for the missing watch, but it was not found before the pair boarded their flight to China at around 8:30 p.m.
The search continued after their departure. Later that evening, police learned that another passenger had found the watch and, at 11:29 p.m., notified Jiming that it had been recovered.
Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island off the southern province of An Giang, received 1.5 million foreign arrivals between January and July, up 53% year-on-year, according to a report from the province’s Department of Tourism.
