Chole-Kulcha seller’s son selected in India Under-19 team

New Delhi, 14 June 2026: India Under-19 team Arjun Rajput, who is currently in the news, has been selected for the Indian Under-19 team for the tour of Sri Lanka. Despite facing many struggles in his cricket journey, he was very happy to know about his choice. His father, who runs Chole-Kulche street stall in Ludhiana, has been a pillar of support for him. Arju also acknowledged the support he received from former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, in whose academy he first started playing the game.

Speaking to ANI, Arjun Rajpute said, “I started playing cricket at the age of 8 or 9; initially, I used to play at Harbhajan Academy, where the coaches helped me a lot.” He mentioned that when the cricket academy was closed, he had to face many struggles as he did not get a place to play.

Arjun’s father sells chole-kulchas from a cart in Jalandhar, there was no question of stopping Arjun from playing, he actually supported him. Arjun said, “When my father saw that I was interested in cricket, he asked me to go ahead and play, and said that he would take care of the household work.” He added that his mother and the entire family supported him.

Bhajan Singh also helped in studies

Arjun Rajput mentioned that he had met Harbhajan Singh many times in his childhood at the place where he used to play cricket. He noted that the former cricketer had also helped him in his education. He said, “I got support from Harbhajan Singh; I played for his academy, and he also helped me with my studies. I studied on scholarship for six years.”
