Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ breaks record before theatrical debut
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has achieved a remarkable milestone at the box office a month prior to its theatrical release as it sets major ticket-sales record.
The highly anticipated fantasy epic based on Homer’s legendary poem, is widely regarded as one of the most ambitious projects of Nolan’s career.
Adapting The Odyssey has long been considered a difficult task due to its sprawling narrative, mythological elements, and non-linear storytelling.
The film has also created a lot of excitement because it is the first feature shot entirely using IMAX 70mm cameras.

Premium large-format tickets, including IMAX 70mm, Dolby Cinema, and Prime at AMC screenings, became available on June 4, 2026.
Demand was so overwhelming that AMC’s website experienced technical issues, leaving some customers waiting for extended periods to secure seats.
Other theatre chains such as Regal and Cinemark, did not report similar disruptions. Standard-format tickets are expected to be released later.
According to Deadline, AMC recorded its strongest first-day premium-format pre-sales for a major studio release since 2022.

The performance also surpassed the chain’s advance sales for many major films over the past four years, making it one of AMC’s biggest ticket-selling events in recent memory.
A previous early-release ticket strategy reportedly generated $1.5 million in sales, further proving the director’s drawing power.
Nolan’s much-awaited movie featuring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson is officially releasing on July 17.
