Aditya Dhar’s legal battle ends

Mumbai: Aditya Dhar, director of the film ‘Dhurandhar’ has got a big relief. The Bombay High Court has ended the defamation case against him. Filmmaker Santosh Kumar apologized for his statement in the court, after which Aditya Dhar decided not to pursue the case.

What was the defamation case?

In March 2026, Santosh Kumar had alleged in a press conference that Aditya Dhar’s hit film ‘Dhurandhar’ was plagiarism from his 2023 script ‘D-Saheb’. He even called Aditya a ‘thief’. Aditya Dhar then filed a defamation case, saying that Santosh’s allegations were damaging his image.

Recently, during the hearing in the High Court, Santosh Kumar’s lawyer apologized for the statements given in the press meeting. Aditya Dhar’s lawyer said that the apology is accepted and now he does not want to pursue the case further. A single bench of Justice Arif Doctor concluded the case. However, the court clarified that if Santosh Kumar wants to take any legal action regarding his script, he can do so separately.


Success of the film ‘Dhurandhar’

The film ‘Dhurandhar’ was released on 5 December 2025 and grossed over Rs 1000 crore in India and over Rs 1300 crore globally. Ranveer Singh played the role of an Indian spy in this film who infiltrates Lyari, Pakistan. Akshaye Khanna played the role of Rahman the dacoit. After the success of the film, its sequel ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ was released on 19 March 2026, which has so far earned Rs 1788 crore. Both the films have performed well at the box office.

Santosh Kumar alleged that Aditya Dhar had stolen his script, but Aditya rejected these allegations and took legal action. Now the controversy has ended after the apology, although the script controversy may still continue. After this decision, Aditya Dhar will now be able to focus on his new films.
