Hidden dirt and overlooked cleaning things in hotel rooms

Hidden dirt in hotel rooms

A hotel room may look clean and attractive from outside, but there are often places where dirt is hidden. People assume that a room is completely clean when they see shiny mirrors, fresh sheets, and well-arranged towels. But the reality is something else. Surprisingly, the hotel bathroom is not always the dirtiest place. There are some things which every guest touches, yet no attention is paid to their cleanliness.

**TV Remote Control**

The name of TV remote comes first in this list. It is one of the most used items in a hotel room. Almost every guest uses it, but does not have the habit of washing hands before touching it. Cleaning the buttons and crevices of the remote is not easy. Often, the housekeeping staff simply wipes it down. As a result, germs from food stains, sneezes, coughs and dirty hands remain on it for a long time. Therefore, many passengers prefer to wipe the remote with a tissue or sanitizer as soon as they enter the room.

**Decorative pillows and colorful fabrics**

The second dirtiest things are decorative pillows and colorful bed clothes. White sheets and pillowcases are changed frequently, but decorative pillows and fabric can go several days without being washed. Guests keep their bags and shoes on them, and sometimes sit on them in the clothes they have brought from outside. This is why many experienced travelers remove these decorative items as soon as they reach the hotel.

**Electric kettle or coffee maker**

The electric kettle or coffee maker found in hotel rooms is also a matter of concern. Most people believe that boiling water makes everything germ-free, but the real concern is about the cleanliness of the machine. Often, these things are not cleaned regularly, which can cause bacteria or fungus to grow. Some travelers wash them before using them, while many avoid using hotel kettles.

**drinking glasses**

Drinking glasses kept near the bathroom are also not completely safe. Many times glasses are simply washed with water instead of being properly disinfected. Sometimes, glasses are also cleaned with the same cloth that is used to clean other things in the room. As a result, many people prefer to wash hotel glasses themselves before using them or only drink water from sealed bottles.

**Other Dirty Places**

Additionally, things like light switches, door handles, telephones, curtain pullers and small buttons near the bed are also full of dirt. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increased awareness of these items, and many travelers now consider it important to carry disinfectant wipes with them.
