New direction of labor reforms in Haryana: Anil Vij’s initiative
New initiative for labor welfare in Haryana
Ambala(Chandra Shekhar Dharani)- The process of giving new direction to labor reforms and labor welfare has intensified in Haryana. Under the leadership of Labor Minister Anil Vij, the state government is continuously taking important steps to improve the living standards of workers, strengthen social security and modernize the labor system.
The objective of the state government is not only to expand industries but also to provide respectable working environment, better health facilities, social security and technically efficient labor system to the workers. With this in mind, many reform schemes and initiatives are being implemented by the Labor Department.
Relief to workers due to increase in minimum wage
Haryana Government recently took an important decision in the interest of workers and announced the increase in minimum wages. According to the new rates implemented by the government from April 1, 2026, the monthly minimum wages of unskilled workers have been increased.
The government believes that in view of rising inflation and living standards, it was necessary to increase the income of workers. Labor Minister Anil Vij called it a step related to the respect and economic security of the working class.
Industrial organizations and labor representatives have also described this decision as proof of the government’s sensitivity towards labor interests. Experts believe that this decision will directly benefit lakhs of labor families and the economy of the state will also be strengthened by increasing the purchasing power of the workers.
Changes in labor system through ‘Shram Mitra’ app
Taking a big step towards technological reforms in the labor sector, Haryana Government has launched “Shram Mitra” mobile application. This application, launched by Labor Minister Anil Vij, is being considered an important initiative towards connecting the system of traditional labor squares with the modern digital system.
This application will become a medium of direct contact between workers and employers. Workers will be able to register their skills, experience and field of work, while employers will be able to directly contact workers as per their requirement. The application also has features like location based technology, distance information and time to reach the workplace, which will make it easier for workers to find work and make the planning process more transparent.
The objective of the government is to make the process of obtaining employment for workers more organized, safe and respectable. At present details of thousands of workers have been added on this digital platform.
Expansion of health facilities in industrial areas
The state government is also paying special attention to strengthening health facilities for workers employed in industrial areas. In this sequence, work is being done on the plan for expansion of Employees’ State Insurance Hospitals and Dispensaries in industrial model townships and industrial areas developed by Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation.
The Government has also decided to provide land for ESI hospitals and dispensaries at concessional rates, so that workers employed in industrial areas and their families can easily get quality health services. Expansion of health facilities in Manesar, Bawal, Kharkhoda, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sohna and other industrial areas is being considered important from the point of view of labor welfare.
Cheap and nutritious food from labor canteens
In order to improve the living standards of workers, the government is also promoting the system of labor canteens. Schemes are being prepared to provide nutritious food at affordable rates to workers in industrial areas and labor-dominated places.
The government believes that merely providing employment to the workers is not enough, but it is equally important to take care of their health, nutrition and social security. The arrangement of labor canteens is being considered especially helpful for daily wage workers and workers involved in construction work.
Increase in coordination through “Industry-Labour Friendship” system
Haryana Government is also promoting “Industry-Labor Maitri” system with the aim of establishing better coordination between industries and workers. The objective of the government is to create such an industrial environment where both the productivity of industries and the interests of workers can be equally protected. Under this initiative, prompt resolution of workers’ grievances, transparent compliance with labor laws, worker safety and regular communication between industries and labor organizations are being promoted. Labor Minister Anil Vij is continuously giving the message that industry and workers in Haryana are complementary to each other and the industrial development of the state is not possible without the welfare of the workers.
Haryana’s Labor Model: Technology and Social Security
Haryana Government is working towards taking the labor sector beyond the traditional administrative structure and linking it with technology, social security and health services. Initiatives like increase in minimum wages, “Shram Mitra” application, expansion of ESI facilities, establishment of labor canteens and Industry-Labour Friendship indicate that the State Government is moving forward keeping workers at the center of the development process.
Experts believe that if labor reforms are implemented at the same pace, then Haryana can be included among the most labor-friendly and industrially balanced states of the country in the coming times.
