Our stomach contains hydrochloric acid, whose pH level is between 1 and 2. It is so strong that it has the ability to melt even steel. When water gets into the stomach, it creates stomach acid. It is a dynamic system.

According to the American Journal of Gastroenterology, water does not slow down gastric processes, rather it improves digestion because it softens the food particles. You can drink water before or after meals, there is no problem.

If you have GERD or acid reflux problem, you should avoid drinking excess water after eating, as it can increase acid reflux. The main function of water is to keep the body hydrated. Every person should drink 2 to 2.5 liters of water a day. Drinking less water can cause hydration problems.
