Bhubaneswar: The beginning of a wonderful journey

The capital of Orissa is known as the ‘Temple City’, and even in a day here you can feel the soul of the city. There are more than 23 must-see places in and around Bhubaneswar, but if you are short on time, these 5 places are a must on your travel list.
Lingaraja Temple – Ancient Shiva Temple of the city
Lingaraj Temple is the identity of Bhubaneswar. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, established in the 11th century and is also the largest Hindu temple in the city. This temple is located in the old city, only 4.5 km from the airport and 5 km from the railway station.
Time: 6:30 am to 7:30 pm
Bindu Sarovar – Sanctity of Shiva and Parvati
Bindu Sarovar located near Lingaraj Temple was built by Lord Shiva to quench the thirst of Mother Parvati. This place is considered very sacred for the devotees, where people take bath.
Time: 6 am to 8 pm
Dhauligiri Shanti Stupa – Confluence of peace and history
Dhauligiri Stupa, where Ashoka converted to Buddhism after the Kalinga War, is a wonderful site. It is also called Peace Pagoda. The white stupa and greenery all around give peace to the mind. A light and sound show is organized here in the evening, which is a must see.

Rajarani Temple – Unique Architecture
The 11th century Rajarani temple is also dedicated to Lord Shiva. It got its name because of the special yellow and red stones here. The Kalinga style carvings and sculptures are worth seeing.

Mukteshwar Temple – Unique example of architecture
This small but very beautiful temple is made of red sandstone. Its archway and square building make it special. Excellent angles for photography are available here.

If you have more time, you can also visit Nandankanan Zoo, Nikko Park, Orissa State Museum or Parashurameshwara Temple. Bhubaneswar will give you a wonderful experience of history, faith and art in one day. Being only 60 km away from Puri, do include it in your trip.
