Global celebration of Guru Purnima
New Delhi: Crores of devotees belonging to different faiths and cultures in 182 countries including Asia, South America, Australia, Africa and India organized a global gratitude festival on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima. On this day, devotees pay homage to Guru-tattva and the tradition of spiritual masters and express their gratitude towards Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who gave them the priceless gift of joy and knowledge in life.
Gurudev led the ceremony from Boon Ashram of the Art of Living in North Carolina, USA. On this occasion, devotees from 182 countries participated in this divine celebration physically and online.
Gurudev led the full moon meditation in an atmosphere of deep gratitude and joy. Subsequently, a simple yet soulful Guru Puja was organized in honor of the tradition of spiritual gurus, which overwhelmed all the seekers with reverence and devotion.
Importance of Guru Purnima
Discussing the significance of Guru Purnima, Gurudev said, “Guru is not just the provider of knowledge but the light of knowledge itself. Guru is your greatest asset. He is mother, father, friend and true companion of life.” Explaining the specialty of the Guru-disciple relationship, he said, “When you have a Guru in your life, the desire for liberation also ends; because the company of the Guru is liberation.”
Gurudev further said, “The Guru guides you from behind, silently. He does not show leadership and gives you freedom of choice.”
Celebration of Guru Purnima in India
Guru Purnima was celebrated with great enthusiasm through special Guru Puja, service activities and grand satsangs at all the Art of Living centers in India. Devotees from across the country connected through the live telecast of the global event from Boone (USA). In Bengaluru, a dignified mass puja was organized by more than a hundred Guru-puja pundits at the Art of Living International Centre. More than three thousand devotees were enjoying the bhajans immersed in devotion at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. In Kolkata, bhajan-jamming at Art of Living's Nirvana station delighted devotees. The auditorium of Sri Sri Academy was also filled with thousands of devotees, where all the devotees danced to the melodious sounds of bhajans.
Celebration of Guru Purnima at international level
The festival of Guru Purnima was celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm at Art of Living centers across the world with meditation, devotional music and service activities. Hundreds of devotees attended the festival in Malaysia, while a grand satsang was organized in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires. Traditional Guru Purnima celebrations took place in Bad Entogast, Germany, and volunteers in South Africa made the day meaningful through community service activities. Various celebrations of Guru Purnima were also organized in many countries including Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Singapore. These celebrations proved that Guru Purnima is not limited to just one country or culture, rather it is a global celebration uniting the entire humanity with gratitude, reverence and spiritual unity.
